Pets lick non-stop when there's some irritation on their skin, leading to bacterial infections and more pimples and pustules being formed. It is best to consult your veterinarian fast as a few weeks' delay can cause the skin to become blackened or ulcerated.  The pets then become fixated on licking and it is hard to break this obsessive compulsive behaviour.

Pyoderma:  Pimples in the skin of the groin region. 

Skin resistance to bacterial infection is low in puppies and possibly during the "adolescence" stage (see picture on right) . 		 Schnauzer X. Pimples on chest and matted hairs.  
The pup grows up to look like a white Schnauzer which is a rare colour if there's such a breed. It is 6 months old and is having its first bleeding (heat). Chest pimples and right fore paw itchy. Infected ear canals (very long hairs), vulval area, obstructed anal glands and matted back end meant a visit to the veterinarian was necessary. 
Rabbit: Left fore nail bed swollen Rabbit. Left fore nail infected and itchy Swollen toe nail being licked excessively by the one-year old rabbit. Consult a vet promptly as the rabbit may mutilate and bites off its digit.  
One-year old Alsatian puppy regularly tried to lick off a small lump which was an umbilical hernia.  The skin is darkened or pigmented if you examine closely. The young dog must be irritated by this hernia.

The stitches are removed 14 days after surgery. Some vets do not recommend hernia repair if the hernia is small.  		 Hyperpigmented umbilical area due to continuous licking by puppy
The excess skin of the hernia had been cut off. 2 nylon stitches placed.
