Singapore is very small. Cars are very expensive to buy and therefore, it
may be better to live in other suburbs and the money saved from expensive
housing rentals near the American School, goes to the purchase of a car.
An example of housing in another suburb is The Inglewood.
It is near the Seletar Reservoir and a 7-minute drive to the Singapore
American School. This estate is a 5-minute drive to downtown Orchard Road.

I am writing
in regards to an inquiry regarding my possible relocation to Singapore
from Florida, USA. I had previously arranged relocation to
Shanghai by July 1 but have since reconsidered out of concern for my
children's health. I am reviewing options to relocate to either
Tokyo or Singapore. I must move to one location by August to
ensure my children are enrolled in schooling.
I have
completed my relocation analysis for Tokyo regarding housing, car
leasing and cost of living. We restricted our housing search to
any accommodations (detached, sem-detached or apartment) that provided
4 bedrooms, 1 den/study, a master bedroom with attached master bath
and at least 2500 sq. ft. of livable space. Wood floors and
natural countertops are a plus. General housing costs within
Tokyo fully burdened (including utilities, furniture lease, etc.)
ranged from $15,000 to $20,000 USD/month.
I applaud
your efforts regarding your web site and its contents. I have
spent several hours sifting through the many listing. My absence
of knowledge regarding housing quality and location, however, is a
handicap without the ability to review the housing in person. I would
greatly appreciate any insight that you may provide regarding the
following:

General range of housing lease costs fitting the description above in
the areas surrounding the Singapore American School
·
Typical months lease amount required for security deposit
·
Is
fully furnished housing common in Singapore or is it leased?
·
Expected monthly lease cost for a Honda Odyssey

Rental prices quoted are for partially furnished houses whereby
curtains, lighting and fixtures, refrigerator, washer, dryer, kitchen
cabinets and wardrobes are provided.
For fully furnished, you would have to add S$1,500-S$2,000 on top of the
negotiated rental price.
Cost of utilities (Water, Gas & Electricity) per month is at an average
of S$1,000 - S$1,200 depending on the air-con usage.
Pool maintenance is S$150/month (2X a week)
Garden maintenance is S$150/month
Air-con maintenance is S$1,800-S$2,000 per annum
Pest Control is S$80 (optional)
Current monthly rental for a Honda Odyssey is about S$2,800/month
