Severe anaemia in the Spitz as a result of prolonged blood loss due to tail biting and infections. This Spitz in Singapore looked alert and healthy. However, if you compared his tongue colour with most dogs, you would see a very pale pink in colour indicating anaemia.

The colour was much paler 3 days ago before veterinary treatment. He had been biting his tail till it was half gone. The tail has 3 major blood vessels and he would have lost a lot of blood through continual self-inflicted haemorrhage. Toxins from micro-organisms at his rotting tail portion which has exposed bone would be disseminated to the bone marrow where blood cells are produced. The result was loss of blood and deficiency in blood cell production, leading to severe anaemia.

Flies and bacteria get at the tail causing itch and pain to the Spitz. Quickly consult your vet as the blood system is abnormal.
