Would the Husky with 41.5 deg C survive?

"At 41.5 degrees Celsius, I don't think this Siberian Husky will survive long," I said to Chye who  carried the big dog onto the examination table with no sweat.

Chye made a living doing transportation of goods and dogs.

He had a roomy 2-year-old Mercedes Vitro van.  He was a strong muscular man who was not  afraid of the big dogs.  

Now, dogs with rectal temperatures above 41 degrees, in my observations, seldom live.  The brain would have been fried and badly damaged. Usually they were comatose. But this Siberian Husky was able to walk.  His high fever was detected early.

What was the cause?  Just a big patch of infected skin near his tail due to a bite from the Alaskan Malamute.  These two dogs were separated usually but they had a brief encounter while the female Siberian Husky was on heat. 

Could the Husky be getting too hot during the 15-minute transportation from the owner's home to the surgery?
"My van has excellent air conditioning and I switched on full blast to cool this Siberian Husky," Chye said.   "He would not get heat stroke during transportation to your surgery."  He loved animals and no way would he save on the air conditioning.

The very high fever was due to the infection of the bite wound of a few days. The dog had licked the wound which was now 15 cm in diameter.  Yellowish pus trickled out as Chye saved off the hairs after I had given the dog a small dose of tranquiliser.  The dog vomited large clumps of hair from his stomach.  Hair swollen during the non-stop licking.

Was it too late for anti-fever and antibiotic injections to save this Husky?  I gave him little chance of recovery.  I was proved wrong. He recovered over the past two weeks. The reason was that his owner was caring and had sought early veterinary treatment before he collapsed from hyper-prexia (very high fever).

"How did the domestic worker wash his wound without being bitten?" I asked Chye when I saw him the next time.  He had transported the female Husky had been accidentally mated a few days ago and I was consulted as to whether there was a way to prevent pregnancy. 

"Oh," Chye said as a matter of factly "I asked her to shorten the leash so that the Husky could not move his head."  Certainly he was good at animal restraint management as well.  

What happened to the bitch? I said it was too late to give her the birth control injection and Chye brought back the bitch.

Would she conceive?  Before long, Chye transported the mother and the 4-week-old puppies for vaccination. 

The mother had not wanted the puppies to suckle and she had developed skin rashes and lost hair. "Wean the puppies," I said.

"It is too early to vaccinate the puppies," I said to the owner.  "Pet shops do buy the puppies but the prices are very low. The market price for one is around $1,600."  2 weeks later, the beautiful puppies were sold out.  It was good for the mother as the puppies were affecting her mental and physical health.  The picture of the puppies showed Chye holding them.    His telephone number is 9686-1794 if readers need his services.
