20 PICTURES TO GIVE OVERVIEW OF SINGAPORE HOUSING.

Some of you do find my website confusing as it is a massive one of 100 MB and has over 1,000 photos and floor plans of the varied types of housing desired by expats.

I hope this pictorial overview of the various types of Singapore housing will be useful to you. These Pictures with research reports are presented in various articles in http://www.asiahomes.com.

I am grateful for the business and emails of expatriates relocating to Singapore. Some pictures of Singapore housing may be useful for the researching expatriates planning to work in Singapore.

Pictures 2 - 8 show downtown condos which have units of over 3,000 sq. ft in floor areas. Rent asked is from $8,000 - $15,000. The new ones like the Anderson Green condos are snapped up fast as all expats want new condos and houses. Newer bathrooms are favoured by Caucasian wives and Landlords of older units will be best advised to remodel their bathrooms and kitchen cabinets to compete with new projects effectively to attract tenants.

Pictures 9 - 12 show a typical around 5-year old 3-bedroom condo, called Holland Peak. The built-in area is around 1,300 sq. ft and the rent asked is around $3,000. Holland Village and Orchard Road are within 5 - 10 minutes by bus. Cornwall Mansions and Belmont Gardens with 3 bedrooms at 1,700 sq. ft asking $6,000 rent are low rise and low density condos are popular with expats. In the District 10 suburban areas, around Bukit Timah and Clementi Road areas, most expatriates are found.

The Wilby Residence (Pictures 13 - 15) is around 2 years old and has full condo facilities. It has a high population of European families as the 3-bedrooms are of a good size. International schools are nearby. A 3-bedroom of 1800 sq. ft rents for around $6,000. There are one-bedroom units for rent. Short term leases are possible. Pictures 16 - 21 shows a modern and less than 15 years old suburban area which most Caucasian expatriates seldom see. It is called Bishan and is just a 5-subway stop to the Orchard subway or around 7-minute ride. The vast majority of housing is the HDB (Housing and Development Board) apartments in which 80-90 percent of Singaporeans are said to be resident.

Bishan, Toa Payoh and Ang Mo Kio are the heartlands where with very few but an increasing number of Caucasian expats. There are value for money affordable new private condos for rent. E.g. Oleander Towers, Trellis Towers, Castle Green, Regentville, Central Place and Seasons Park. Email judy@asiahomes.com for updates.

The rent for a new detached is much lower in this neighbourhood as there is no great demand from Caucasian expats.

The Bishan subway next to the Junction 8 shopping mall, the car pick up point and schools are there. The international schools are not nearby, but the French School, Chatsworth International School, the ISS and Overseas Family School are within a 5-10-minute drive.
